School Advocacy Helps You,
And We Need Your Support
In only one year of existence, FairfaxCAPS has established a reputation throughout Fairfax County as an independent and
reliable source of information about Fairfax County Public Schools proposals, school performance and programs, budgets,
and building plans. We provide parents, taxpayers, policymakers and others in the community with fact-based and
balanced research and analysis. We advocate for openness and transparency in FCPS decision-making.
Your contributions are needed to support our ongoing mission. Many of your friends and neighbors volunteer from
2 to 20 hours per week to support FairfaxCAPS research and advocacy efforts. Even though FairfaxCAPS is an
all-volunteer, non-profit organization, our research, programs, and advocacy efforts do cost money.
Our recent activities include:
- A comprehensive analysis of the School Board’s plan to purchase a second headquarters building for $100 million.
- A debate between candidates for Chairman of the Board of Supervisors, focused exclusively on schools.
- An information meeting for parents on the Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate programs, and high school pupil placement options.
Our web site is accessed by hundreds of people every day to find information about:
- School Board plans, and members’ positions and votes on issues, and to view video clips from School Board meetings.
- The differences between AP and IB programs.
- Pupil placement processes, procedures and regulations.
- Performance rankings of Fairfax County high schools, middle schools, and elementary schools.
